More than 100 elderly beneficiaries staged a protest in front of the Madhusudanpur Gram Panchayat office under the Soro block of Odisha’s Balasore district on Monday. The demonstration was organized to allege prolonged delays in the disbursement of their pension benefits.
The protesting beneficiaries claimed they have not received their pension amounts in their bank accounts for the past two to three months. They stated that payments were credited regularly in the past, but the sudden disruption has caused significant hardship for elderly and economically vulnerable individuals who depend on the pension for daily needs.
Expressing their dissatisfaction, the beneficiaries gathered at the Panchayat office and held a demonstration. They demanded immediate intervention from the authorities to resolve the issue, stating that the delay has affected their ability to meet essential expenses and manage household needs.
As part of their protest, the beneficiaries submitted a memorandum addressed to the District Collector through the Panchayat Executive Officer. The memorandum urged the administration to take prompt steps to restore the regular disbursement of pension payments and address their grievances at the earliest.
“Under the previous government, we used to receive our pensions in advance during festival seasons,” said a protesting beneficiary. “However, under the current government, we have not received our pensions for the last three months. Due to this prolonged delay and the hardships it has caused, we have staged a protest demanding the immediate release of our pending pension payments.”
“I do not have my husband or son,” alleged another beneficiary. “If I do not receive the pension amount, how will I survive? I am facing many problems as I have not received my pension for the last three months. Therefore, I have joined the protest along with other beneficiaries.”
